A great place to chill if you’re staying on Koh Samet. The food was great, and we really enjoyed our visit. However, I think the staff could benefit from additional hospitality training, especially the lady who served us. She came across as a bit rude while serving our food and clearing our plates, which made us feel uncomfortable. In contrast, the male staff members were very friendly, polite, and had excellent manners. One experience that really stood out was when the lady staff member held my partner’s clothing without asking for permission. I understand she may have wanted to check whether it was wet or dry before we sat down, but she should have asked first rather than touching our personal belongings. It also seemed like common sense that we wouldn’t sit on a cushioned chair if our clothes were still wet. A small suggestion: When serving food, it would be more courteous to say, “Excuse me,” and repeat the order to ensure everything is correct. Likewise, when clearing the table, it’s good practice to say, “Excuse me,” and ask the guests if they have finished eating before removing their plates. These small gestures can make guests feel more welcomed and respected. Overall, it’s a nice place with delicious food and a relaxing atmosphere, but improving the customer service would make the experience even better.
Excellent restaurant on the seashore. We ate 2 types of fish, very tasty, and Mango banana shake. But the day after we came and order Greek salad. What we got was different from the picture. Few cheese. The waiter said that he can bring more cheese for extra money, 90 B. This is the first time in my 20 years in Thailand that I was asked to pay extra for something that should be in the food. Very disapointing
I rarely write reviews. The Reef has definitely earned one. For Thailand, the prices are not in the budget category. They don’t need to be — the kitchen and the service justify it. The chef’s international background shows in the way it should: not as imitation, but as precision behind the food. The menu is creative and coherent without becoming complicated. Thai dishes are elevated while remaining true to themselves. Western dishes held to the same standard. There is a balance here that is surprisingly rare: neither side dominates, and both are executed with care. This time I was in the mood for the wood-fired pizza, which was excellent. The cocktails and mocktails deserve special mention. Whoever is behind the bar clearly knows what they are doing. There is skill, restraint, and attention to detail in every glass. The service was equally impressive. The staff speak excellent English, are genuinely friendly, and know the menu exceptionally well. Their recommendations were accurate, thoughtful, and clearly based on experience. The staff work as a team, and it shows. There is a quiet professionalism throughout the entire experience. As a guest, you notice when people care about what they are doing. The Reef gives exactly that impression. Nothing feels forced, nothing feels neglected, and every detail seems to have been considered. I look forward to returning—and next time, I intend to arrive hungry.
Fantastic spot just next Tubtim Resort. Walked from the pier and was famished. Had the roasted pork in coconut with lots of roasted onions and tomatoes. Added a side dish of morning glory. It was soooo tasty. Loved it great lunch. Low season is great soo chill and relaxed vibe.
After seeing this place develop over the past few years we decided to try a meal there last night. We had booked a table and settled at our reserved spot at 7pm, the restaurant was quite busy already. Having already ordered a cocktail from the beach bar we settled in and looked at the menu. Having made our choice we then tried to order, not enough staff and no one looking around to make sure customers were being looked after. Whilst I don’t normally attract a waiters attention I did this evening due to a total lack of service from the staff. We made it clear that the starters were exactly that, starters, not be be served and then the main come out two minutes later. Well you guessed it, starters came, not together but at separate times, then two minutes later the main courses arrived and we sent them back. When the main did come back it was cool, steak was rare and not medium and no staff around to inform. Needless to say we paid our bill, left no tip and explained to the staff that this was not good enough and that the chef needed to learn how to cook his steaks. Pictures attached are of the steak being cut into pieces to see how rare it was all the way through. It is a shame to post this review as we had hoped this could be a regular spot for the many trips we make each year to Koh Samet. Disappointing evening from what looked like what was going to be a real treat.
