Phra Sunthorn Phu (1786-1855) is held in high esteem in the field of Thai literature. His stature being as high as William Shakespeare or Geofrey Chaucer is to English Literature.

His father's family were from Klang and his mother lived just adjacent to the royal palace of King Rama 1st, where Sunthorn was born. His parents soon divorced. His father became a monk and his mother joined the court as a wet-nurse to the royal children.
