Taksin the Great's Shipyard and Shrine
Pattaya
Before arrival at the archeological reserve of the Taksin shipyard you will see the recently constructed Taksin shrine.
At the entrance is a large boulder covered in gold, and a small shaded area fashioned in the shape of the Thai Hero's famous conical hat.
The main shrine is truly beautiful as befits the great Thai Hero and his courageous followers who chased the Burmese out and restored the Kingdom. All glitters with gold leaf and beautiful adornments.
100 metres further along the banks of the Chan river is the archeological dig which discovered the remains of the ship yard where Taksin and his men constructed a fleet of ships to sail with his army of 5000 to sail up to Thonburi to surprise and conquer the invaders who had previously sacked Ayutthya.
The area is made fascinating for the presence of an unfinished ships whose timbers have become fossilized over the years and the beach opposite where you can imagine each constructed vessel was slid down to the water.
